Broward County Public Schools have proudly earned an “A” grade for the first time since 2011, as announced on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, by the Florida Department of Education’s Florida School Accountability Reports for the 2023-2024 year.
“We are officially an A-rated school district,” board member Debbi Hixon proudly announced, igniting cheers and applause.
Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn credited the district’s success to a steadfast focus on resources and building classroom capacity. “Prioritizing our focuses on resources and building the capacity for people to get the job done in the classroom and remaining student-centered,” Hepburn explained. He emphasized that this focus ensures the district remains on track to achieve its goals.
“We have no D or F schools and that’s the first time since 1999,” said Hepburn as they celebrated another milestone
The superintendent acknowledged the vital contributions of teachers, students, parents, and school staff. This “A” grade symbolizes academic excellence and enhances the district’s appeal for new student enrollments. “It’ll create some inquiring minds and hopefully lead to more students wanting to enroll in our schools,” Hepburn noted.
The “A” grade has broader implications for the community. Bob Swindell, CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, emphasized its role in promoting Broward County as an attractive business destination.
“It helps us when we promote Broward County as a business destination, more importantly, it helps us retain companies and people in Broward County when they know they can get great education for their children” Bob Swindell stated, underscoring the district’s contribution to the future workforce.
The latest report from Broward Schools shows an impressive distribution of ratings: 82 schools in Broward earned A ratings, 62 earned B ratings, and 69 received C ratings.
